2019 NABJ Region I Conference

This year's conference serves as a major milestone as it will help commemorate the 400th anniversary when Africans arrived on American soil. Our gathering at the Scripps Howard School for Journalism and Communication at the Historic Hampton University will also focus on improving the industry’s involvement in developing coverage of America's diverse landscape, promoting dialogue for professional growth, and providing diversity training for all levels within the journalism industry.

A select number of mid-managers and human resources executives will be trained to improve their management skills on diversity and inclusion. You must be in management and registered for the regional conference to attend.

CONFERENCE KEYNOTE

Virginia Governor Douglas L. Wilder will be interviewed on stage by former NABJ President Barbara Ciara, anchorwoman for WTKR Channel 3 CBS. Gov. Wilder is the first African American to serve as governor of a U.S. state since Reconstruction, and the first elected African-American governor in the U.S.
